On our way to the wedding <3

The girls taking pictures! I love her!

We painted our nails, then ended up being cretine taking pictures outside.

Everyone singing me a round of “tu vuo’ fa’ l’americano” at Stefano’s graduation party and Aldo’s birthday party.

Me and Boccadoro! <3

Me and my favorite kid in the universe, Vittorio. <3

Me, the boys, and some modest afternoon beer drinking.

Getting down to crunch time! And going to Rome. :)

I said goodbye to Stefano on thursday when he went back to Milano, but waited until I was at the pool to cry. Gerardo was the first person to see me cry about leaving. Then a few minutes later when I had dried my eyes and was over it he told me that he wants to be the last person I say goodbye to. Hey heeey Miss Waterworks. I think he felt worse after having told me that because it made me cry again, but I only cried because I don’t want to say goodbye to him.

It”s sunday, and last night at 7 I got back from Rome, where I went to take the SAT. I left Friday morning at 6:30 and Aldo took me to Piazza Macello to the bus- what a sweetheart! When I got there, I was sitting in the bus listening to Harry Potter and waiting to pull out when I see Jacopo and Eva standing outside in Piazza Macello… whaaaaat? Well, they came to send me off and wish me good luck. I went outside and talked with them for a few minutes, which was really lovely. I was more at a loss for words than anything. Like, it wasn’t even 6:30 in the morning yet. Hahahaha.

Arrived at Rome, checked in with Rita, and went about my day running around Rome alone, taking the metro wherever I felt like it, and walking wherever I felt like it. I literally walked from one side of the city to the other, stopping for lunch at Trattoria Antonio near the Pantheon, where Mom used to eat when she went to Rome. Sent her a text from there, although she didn’t reply. I went on another shopping run after lunch, and saw the most beautiful purse in the world – Don Dup. It’s gorgeous. Sent a text to Dad reading “I’m crying! Just saw the most beautiful purse in the world! 400 Euros!” .. It was actually 500 ;) but he sent me a text back that more or less said “tough shit!” hahahahaha. Well damn.

Took a taxi to the hotel around 4, slept 2 hours, then went out and ate Chinese food for dinner. Came back to the hotel, showered, watched BBC, then talked to Roby and Rita and Aldo on the phone for about 2o minutes- love them so much. Roberta was nervous for her exam, as was I, and turned out that Luisa had called 2 times but they never responded. A while later Luisa called me to tell me that going to Rome was a massive mistake and that if I was in the middle of my trip they would’ve had to send me home for it. Tough shit! They’re assholes, and I had fun! She also told me that what I did was worse than what the finnish kid did, and he did drugs, drank, got in fights and was violent and abusive. Riiiiiight, I did something worse than him by going to take an exam for university.

Couldn’t sleep that night, and ended up laying in bed for about 4 hours before going to sleep. Woke up, and walked to the school. It was totally strange how all of a sudden I was surrounded by heaps of American students. Sat next to a super cute boy with an Italian passport during the test, and in front of me was Katie, a girl who’s mom is Greek/ American and step dad is Italian, so she lives here but here heart is really back in LA. She was heaps nice.

Math was hard, the other stuff was decent. The essay was CRAP. I haven’t written in English in mooonnnthhhsssss. I can’t wait to retake it all over again, especially because I didn’t study for crap. Whoooops. Vabbe’ It’s over now!

After the test, called a Taxi, decided to walk along Corso Vittorio Emanuele for a bit before catching the bus. Walked to the colosseum in the sunshine, had lunch at some restaurant outside while listening to Harry Potter, then walked back to Cavour to take the metro to Tiburtina. At the station I was sitting on a bench and a man came over to ask directions, but my immediate response was “I’m sorry, I don’t speak Italian very well, so I can’t help you” And he’s like “no you speak Italian incredibly well!” and I’m like “tehe, thanks”. Anyway, this man was absolutely beautiful. I mean, Italian actor status. He was probably 40 or 45, but he was definitely a george clooney. Walked over to the bus station, hopped on the bus, and passed out on the back row of 5 seats (thinking of how I always did that with Jackson). It was sweaty and hot and italian on the bus, and I woke up sticky and uncomfy. There were two college boys in the seats in front of me that were pretty cool to talk to though.

Overall, I really enjoyed going to Rome. I wasn’t particularly nervous about being there by myself or anything, and I had a really fantastic time my first day. I was texting Manuel and Gerardo all day keeping them updated with what I was doing and how it was going. The first day I was totally happy being all alone and running around by myself, but by the second day I was lonely. I wouldn’t be able to live by myself!

I got home at 7:00 and as the bus pulled in I was surprised (again!) to see Eva and Maurizio and Jacopo all waiting for me to arrive. My first thought was “shit! did I tell them I’d go home with them??” because I had just gotten off the phone with Aldo who had come to pick me up. I stood with them for a few minutes until Aldo pulled up across the street. While Maurizio was wearing his matching sweatsuit, Aldo stepped elegantly out of his Alfa Romeo in an absolutely stunning black suit and tie. He looked REALLY good- che culo!

Came home and saw my dear Roberta, who was waiting for me to get home! On the phone the night before she had told me (in English so her parents didn’t understand) “Tomorrow, after we finish our exams, we have to….. festeggate!!”, which would be a literal translation of “party” from Italian. Hahahahahaha.

Her test went really well too, but the listening part was difficult. We went out with everyone that night- Manuel, Carmello, Simone, Vincenzo, Denise, and then Vittorio and Priscilla came to Vincenzo’s when we went back to play poker. I’m crap at poker, by the way. Hahaha. Carmello was being a pain in the ass, like normal these days :(

Last night I also had to say goodbye to Tefi, who left this morning at 4 a.m. She should be about to Ecuador by now. She was so sad and it was so hard to say goodbye to her. I think the hardest part was watching her hug her host sister and cry. She was such a sweetie pie and invited me to come to Ecuador to stay with her- I would love to! :) I hope it works out.

Time is flying by and I have 8 days left. Roberta and I want to go to the theme park in Napoli this week, and tonight we want to see Sex and the City 2 in the cinema. At 7 there is a procession for Corpus Domini and Aldo has to wear a sash and Roberta Rita and I have to walk all over the city with him. Also, at 9 Flavia is having her birthday party in Avellino and I’m dying to see her. I hope it all works out! Now, I gotta go clean my room! <3 Hoping to talk to Mom soon too… We haven’t talked in ages.

Babysitting and beer cans

Spent the week with Jacopo and Johannes babysitting. Most of the time, they were decent, until I found out that Jacopo was having a party, sold 50 tickets to it, and was planning on having a bunch of beer and alcohol. After consulting my own father for advice, I told him that he needed to tell his parents or I would, because even if I couldn’t control him my responsibility was to the house.

Although it BLEW MY MIND, Eva gave him permission to have the party. I told him all week that I would have absolutely no part in cleaning up Saturday. Literally almost every other hour- I KNEW he’d make me do the cleaning, even if I told him a million times I’d kick his ass if he made me do it. Well, turns out his friends hired bouncers for the party, which roughed me around quite a bit. I ended up slapping some ass hole named Ettore because he got all up in my face. My friends came- Mago danced on the table, Priscilla got drunk, and then we had a cuddle fest on the trampoline. My friends included Gian Paolo, Mago, Vittorio, Priscilla, Denise, Simone and Carmello.

Woke up in the middle of the night to Ettore banging on my previously locked from the inside door yelling “Baby! Americana! Bella!” and then someone else yelling “Vaffanculo! Lasciala stare.” Hahahahaha. I went back to bed. I also found 1000 lire in my shirt the next day.

Left my room at 12 (hoping to GOD the boys did their work). Johannes was still in bed- BIG surprise… and Jacopo was in his PJs and hadn’t done shit in the direction of cleaning. I was FURIOUS, so I spent the next 8 hours on my hands and knees scrubbing, doing 4 loads of dishes, and putting the mountain of Johannes shit in the garage back into the tavernetta. I spent the entire time convincing Jacopo that I wasn’t mad at him- ugh. I could’ve killed him.

When the parents came back, I cleaned for 3 more hours until I got summoned into talk to Maurizio for the first time. After the solemn order to “close the door” he whispers “i’m not mad at you!!!!!” and then I go over, give him a kiss, and finally take a deep breath. We sit and laugh for about 30 minutes about every ridiculous thing in the world. Suddenly, Jacopo comes in, and watching Maurizio’s reaction, I had to turn away so Jacopo couldn’t see me laugh. Maurizio’s smile literally DROPPED off his face, and he put on this furious glare to respond to Jacopo. The minute Jacopo closed the door behind him, Maurizio turns to me with a grin on his face and goes “anyway!!” and continues with his story. God, I laughed so hard.

Aaaaaanyway. Came back to Atripalda after a lovely sunday morning walk in the mountain with Jacopo Eva and Maurizio (love them!) and saw Rita for her onomastico.

Monday, school was cool. I was bored in physics, so I went into the hallway where I ran into all my favorite boys, Manuel Vittorio and Gerardo. They got me to follow them to the boys bathroom end of the hallway, then ushered me in when no one was looking. Of course other boys came in and gave me the weirdest looks ever. The hard part was getting back out, so Gerardo snuck out first. Pushed my luck a bit, because the principal of the school saw me coming around the corner from the boy’s bathroom. Oops :)

Today, I had a wicked water fight with Ragano, and the girls Denise and Valentina. Ragano hid in the bathroom while we attacked him from above the stall, and he also stomped on a water bottle from the top of the stairs while we were all standing at the bottom. We found big water bottles and Valentina and I attacked him outside. It was great, until he brought the water into the classroom and got everyone’s homework and my purse soaking wet. Nice one! I’ll get him back though…. just wait ;)

This afternoon I met Gian Paolo in the piazza in the afternoon. Oversized, belted collared shirt and sunglasses, we sat on a bench and talked about Shakespeare for about an hour, then walked to his cousins house to pick up some disegni that she did for him (architect!). She was fantastic, amazing and invited me back- I actually really, really enjoyed meeting her. And then after a quick walk in the piazza, he went home, while I went and bought some clinique makeup at Lucia’s.

Tomorrow I’m not going to the pool because Gerardo has a party to go to, damn! And only 3 weeks left! Today Valentina almost made me cry thinking about it, and she was mighty close to crying herself. Oh no!

Sunday Afternoons

Turns out Amalfi didn’t happen due to ballsey weather. I mean, sure, it rained relentlessly yesterday, but today it wasn’t half bad! Oh well.

Yesterday I didn’t go to school, woke up, had lunch, messed around in the afternoon, and then at night I went out with all my favorite homies, Roberta, Manuel, Denise, Simone, Carmelo and Vincenzo. Despite the ridiculous rain and wind, we met up in the piazza, where Roberta had a bit of a figura di merda, involving her falling over and me screaming. Good thing no one saw us! She’s adorable, but she was WAY to paranoid about the fact that someone might have seen her. Like, worth dying over if someone had seen her. I was like, okay, you fell, not THAT big of a deal. Anyway, she’s a sweetie pie.

We had dinner at the eighth dwarf, like always. It was yummy, like always. Afterwards we ran around in the rain, Denise was drunk, we listened to music and ran around in the piazza. Later, we got gelato and walked around a bit more, and ended the night downstairs at Roberta’s doing a whole lot of nothing. I was outside talking with Mr. Boom the whole time.

Today, I woke up to full on VIOLENT buzzing from the downstairs buzzer, signifying “ALEX GET YOUR ASS UP” from Rita. Effing bitch! I was so angry. She literally buzzed that buzzed 1 million and a half times, with these ridiculously long, loud buzzes. Aaanyway, I came downstairs immediately, and then waited around 20 more minutes until everyone was ready for lunch. I was like, wow, you could’ve at least let me brush my teeth, but whatever.

After lunch, I went upstairs and looked for at least an hour for my pencil sharpener. Never found the damn thing… Afterwards, I did my eyebrows, painted my nails, took a fantastically long and yummy smelling shower. Currently all of my bathroom products are citrusy, so I came downstairs afterwards smelling like an orange blossom and everyone came and smelled me and touched me. Yummm. Then later Aldo went upstairs and apparently my entire appartment smells citrusy and delicious.

OH! I forgot! Today Rita taught me how to cook le barchette di zucchine. You hollow out the shells of zucchine, and fill them with this delicious mixture of a bunch of totally mushy mashed potatoes mixed with parmigiano, 2 eggs, some milk, some butter and salt. Then we added cooked bits of mushrooms, but sometimes she also adds little chunks of cooked pancetta and mozzarella or cooked bits of artichokes. First you prepare the whole inside mix, then hollow out the zucchine shells and soak them in salt water, then fill them with the mix, then lay them all in a ceramic dish with oil in the bottom, then put oil and breadcrumbs on top, and a little water in the bottom to cook the raw zucchine. Then you bake it! gnam gnam gnam, Anyway, I learned that today, and they’re Roberta’s favorite. Also, one of Eugenio’s friends made a Pastiera Napoletana, which happens to be the single most delicious thing in the universe. It’s a type of cake they make at Easter and it’s typical of Napoli, with bits of grain in it and it tastes like oranges.

Tomorrow Roberta and I aren’t going to school because she’s not prepared for physics, so I’ll stay home. Either I’ll practice pack all of my bags and see how much of my stuff I can fit into them for coming home, or I’ll just go straight to organizing which stuff I can put into a box to bring to the post office, or I’ll organize and throw out stuff tomorrow, or i’ll study, or I’ll just screw it all and sleep in the morning. I better decide! But I don’t reckon I’ll study because I don’t have my pencil sharpener. Haha. Therefore, I think I’ll organize all my stuff in the morning. Yeeee! Only one month left! >_<

Wedding, Skyping and School

This would be my song of the week, Make you happy- Josh Pyke. <3

So, this week I listened to the entire Prisoner of Azkaban book in 2 days at school- I will never fall out of love with Harry Potter. Even after a particularly unfortunate afternoon with Mr. Pesce, I though “Wow, I don’t need boys. I have Harry”. I knew deep down it wasn’t true, but that’s just about how involved I am. Soon, I’ll move on to the 5th and 6th! I wish I had all the other audio books!

Yesterday, I met the english professor from Boston, Gerry, in the piazza and she gave me two wicked new books. I started yesterday morning with “Summer Sisters” by Judy Blume- english literature is scarce here. I’m actually totally loving it, and once I finish this blog I’ll go finish it. I’ve got about 2 chapters left! Woo! 400 pages in 2 days. :)

On Sunday I’m going with Iemma’s to Amalfi- should be a blast! And on tuesday, they go to Rimini, so I’ll head over there after school and stay with them for about 4 days to babysit. I’m excited, but afraid of telling Rita! I’m going to have Maurizio call and ask tomorrow. :) Honestly, It would be good for me to get out of the house a bit.

When I’m there, I’m totally planning on cooking Kugel for the boys- yum for Jewish food. We’ll have to go shopping to get all the ingredients! I need to find extra wide egg noodles, sour cream, and some other yummy things. And raisins!

I never really wrote about the wedding, if I remember correctly. I was surprised by how the groom never really kissed the bride. I mean, pecks, but no you are the love of my life  kisses. It was a bit strange, really, because I’ve seen so many perfect wedding movies. The entire wedding consisted of yummy food, and my favorite part was the sorbet that came after the 1st second course. Lawl for 1 million course meals.

I’m enjoying my friendships at school these days. Miluccio breaks my balls, however he’s a sweety pie and I wish I could spend more time in Italy- I think we could become really good friends. I’m good friends now with Mr. Boom, which just makes me giggle. He’s the biggest sweety pie in the universe and he makes me laugh. My other good friend these days is Denise, who is funny and caring and always makes me smile. Also, Chiara is always happy to see him, considerate, and always a fabulous friend. She’s always the one to think of including me and always is the first to say “where’s alex?” if she can’t find me.

Today was fabulous, so I don’t want to come home, but in general I’m starting to prepare myself for coming home. Tonight especially was fabulous, so as I’m sitting here, I wouldn’t be to stoked to be heading home, but within the past week I’ve been thinking quite a bit about it and how refreshing it will be.

Today after school we went to eat at blue orange, Carmello, Denise, Lau, Troisi, Chiara, Alfredo, Brigida, Carmine and one other girl I don’t remember her name. After blue orange, we walked around in the piazza a bit and then went to some church gig for school. I sat with Denise and Simone bored out of my mind, until we finally went outside, where I immediately ran into Rita. FML. Whatever.

Later, I went into the piazza with Chiara and Roberta and ended up falling asleep on a bench in the sunshine. I was SO exhausted. It was an amazing nap though, and I’m not really too fussed about the figura di merda. I needed some sleep. Came home, read my fabulous book, then went to the pool.

Laughed with Gerardo in the car, and when I got to the pool the love of my life, Gaetano, happened to be working- score! He grabbed my hand, winked at me AND made a kissy face at my when I came in. SCORE! He also winked at me later while I was swimming, and held out his arms huggy like as I was leaving. HE. MAKES. ME. MELT. I’m so in love with him, and Gerardo teases me about him.

Gerardo is a sweety pie too! We divided up the lane tonight, so I got right and he got left and I slowed down a bit to swim next to him the whole time. He’s such a little goof ball, and it doesn’t hurt that Gaetano sees me and him joking around with each other all the time. Today, the second person this week asked if he was my boyfriend. I said “no, my boyfriend is Gaetano” and we both laughed.

Illumini le notti piu’ scure, metti di buon umore la gente quando ti vede e porti fortuna. Buona nottte mia piccola fatina.

^^ I happen to LOVE that last one.

This week has just been a grand success, and I’m loving it. I’ll have to write about it tomorrow.

To demonstrate this week, I’ll post my facebook status from yesterday:

AMAZING DAY. woke up late, walked to school in the sunshine, downloaded heaps of cool new music, got 2 new romance novels, discovered chocolate covered coconut hunks, talked to the love of my life Gaetano who winked at me and grabbed my hand, cute boy blew me a kiss at the pool, rocked my new sunglasses and got mills of compliments, went to the pool with my main squeeze and paid for another month, organized all my summer school stuff, AND talked to mary on the phone for at least 20 minutes and it made me laawwlllll. wi wer wi wer racchiu racchiu. xxx i LOVE today.”

And I’m in love with Marracash and his sexy Italian voice. Especially at 2:36 in the song Domani.

Two nights ago my favorite grandpa called me on Skype and I got to see him on the video. It was the highlight of my entire week. It made me so happy that I went to bed smiling. He was so cute, and when we were going to hang up we both said “i love you so! bye!” and then he goes “wait wait wait, honey, how do I get out of this thing??” I am SO in love with my grandfather.

This week I also skyped with Jackson, which was another amaaaaaazing thing that happened. I also got a chance to talk to his mom, which was lovely. Jackson and I talked for at least 2 hours, laughing about all our amazing times. He said over and over “god, we had so much fun” and “i can’t believe how much fun we had” and how much he would die to be able to be here in Italy. I can’t wait to go see him- he’s such an incredible friend. I’m also really proud of him for how hard he’s studying and how hard he’s working. I’m still lighting a fire under his ass though to send me some pictures of us in Napoli from December. I hope he does it soon! We got a skype date tomorrow at 2, but I can’t make it because I have to go to some church gig. :/ I’ll send him an e-mail now and let him know. Che palle.

I’m also infinitely happy for my lady friend Lucia who is lucky lucky lucky in love, and Lexie who honestly just inspires me to live a little, and I need a bit of that in my life. Although I haven’t seen them in a few days, I’m looking forward to getting Anchorman from Lexie and swapping a few Daniel Steele variety novels. Wooo!

Now, shower time! I’ll write a new blog tomorrow maybe. Still have to talk about the wedding a bit I think, and many other things.

xxxxxxx <3

Vaffanculo

Okay, tomorrow I might write about the wedding. First, I want to have a real quick rant.

NO, I will NOT begin bringing my backpack to school to carry your daughters books for her because she’s too much of a princess to carry her own books for her. I know that making any comparisons between your country and mine is downright blasphemy, BUT, in my country slavery was outlawed right after the Civil War. YOU carry her books with your fake ass mal di spalla if you’re so preoccupied. Any about the mal di spalla. Honestly? You’ve been suffering that since I got here, FOUR MONTHS AGO.

And I’m sick of being your fucking slave. “Alex, prendi il cordless” is the phrase I hear most often at the table. Fucking get it yourself, bitch. Yeah, that or don’t talk on the phone during a meal because I get my head chopped off if I check the time on my phone at the table.

Before, I got screamed at every day for being late for school, when I always finished earlier than roberta. NOW, I get criticized for being ready and downstairs 20 minutes early, and get banished with the other neighbor.

THANKS a ton for inviting me to the wedding after exhausting ANY possible option of dumping me on someone else. Honestly, to call Lucia’s mom to see if I could go there, because one extra person at the wedding would be WAY too much. I’m sorry that you had to exchange the gift, just so that I could come, but god forbid I go back to Jacopo’s house for the  afternoon. They don’t want to make a figura di merda by always dumping me there when they fuck off on vacation without me. In reality, I’d be infinitely happier THERE. I know, I know, it’s outrageous to say that because it was my decision to switch families, but frankly I just like them so. much. more. I know I made the right decision because I’m learning Italian, but they’re kind of killing me here.

Anyway I need to finish with this rant. I’ll go post a quick blog about the wedding.

xx

I love my Italian friends! xxx

Lately, my songs are Gypsy by Shakira, The Apl Song by The Black Eyed Peas and Naive by The Kooks. Just throwing that out there as a first off.

So, time is passing outrageously quickly and there’s absolutely nothing I can do to stop it. It’s blowing my mind. Lately Roberta and I have been getting on incredibly well, and I’m enjoying her company a ton. She’s an absolute sweety pie. We take heaps of photos together, we kiss each other good night, and we laugh and joke like sisters- loving it! Yesterday, (although it miiiiight have been a mistake) we went to the tanning salon. People have been calling me negretta ever since. LAWL. Now that I’ve taken a shower though, I think it’s a bit better- I just look like a little brown berry. Unfortunately, any pictures from last night are ruined by my orange glow.

Last night I went to L’ottavo nano with Gian Paolo, Luciano, Denise, Carmello, Manuel and Vincenzo. Roberta went on a date, but ended up coming with us near the end of the night, and while we were at L’ottavo nano Gerardo ended up coming and joining us. Then way later when we were sitting outside Dulcis, Vittorio came and found us with a spiffy new haircut. Let me just say how much I fucking LOVE all of them.

Some of my favorite scenes from the night were slapping Mago’s ass while he was getting a piggy-back ride from Miluccio, and then explaining butt-cheeks, and the fact that the word is the same as cheeks on your face. Lawl. Gerardo was a little blue last night, so he ended up powering beer on an empty stomach then starting licking nutella plates clean. Another lawl moment. And Carmello is enamored of my smooth skin and decided he wanted to eat me- he was sober. Everyone got really into touching my skin, but Carmello got possessive over me, so I just gave Mago my other arm. He also had a blast doing my hair, and I totally loved it.

Gerardo, in his slightly ubriaco state of mind began story telling sessions, where he told the story of Vincenzo, and the story of how Manuel dominated Gian Paolo when he dropped a 5 Euro note. I’ve never heard Gerardo speak that much English in my life- and it was so adorable. He used phrases like “once upon a time” and he’d be like, “now you’re all wondering what happens next! ask me what happens next!” then he would get quiet and wait for me to ask him what happens next.

I also had a blast talking to Denise. She’s such a sweetie pie and I told her all my secrets from Gita- which she was absolutely astounded by. Lawl! And Manuel really wants to know what we were talking about, but no way I’m going to indulge him! ;)

The night ended beautifully with “grazie x stasera:)” and “tvb :) once upon a time :) ” texts from Gerardo, “oh my god! 6 pericolosa tu!! :) ” and “perche’ ho visto che hai fatto all’asscheek di manuel! :) ” and “Sogni d’oro anche a te… I love you (ho imparato! :) )” texts from Luciano.

Today, I woke up at 9, had my first shower since going to the dark side, and watched the water run brown off my body. Lawls. Did my hair and makeup while having a dance party to The Black Eyed Peas (loving that filipino song!!) Family told me yesterday that we have to be ready at 11, but it’s 11:45, I’ve been ready for an hour, and when I went downstairs everyone was still in pajamas. I really have no idea when we’re leaving. Haha. But it’s cool, because the church we’re going to for the wedding is literally next door. I can see it from the window, so it’s not like we have to go far. Then we’re going to the lunch afterwards off in some other town and that should last more or less all afternoon. Aldo just called me to go! I’ll write about the wedding tomorrow!
