I said goodbye to Stefano on thursday when he went back to Milano, but waited until I was at the pool to cry. Gerardo was the first person to see me cry about leaving. Then a few minutes later when I had dried my eyes and was over it he told me that he wants to be the last person I say goodbye to. Hey heeey Miss Waterworks. I think he felt worse after having told me that because it made me cry again, but I only cried because I don’t want to say goodbye to him.
It”s sunday, and last night at 7 I got back from Rome, where I went to take the SAT. I left Friday morning at 6:30 and Aldo took me to Piazza Macello to the bus- what a sweetheart! When I got there, I was sitting in the bus listening to Harry Potter and waiting to pull out when I see Jacopo and Eva standing outside in Piazza Macello… whaaaaat? Well, they came to send me off and wish me good luck. I went outside and talked with them for a few minutes, which was really lovely. I was more at a loss for words than anything. Like, it wasn’t even 6:30 in the morning yet. Hahahaha.
Arrived at Rome, checked in with Rita, and went about my day running around Rome alone, taking the metro wherever I felt like it, and walking wherever I felt like it. I literally walked from one side of the city to the other, stopping for lunch at Trattoria Antonio near the Pantheon, where Mom used to eat when she went to Rome. Sent her a text from there, although she didn’t reply. I went on another shopping run after lunch, and saw the most beautiful purse in the world – Don Dup. It’s gorgeous. Sent a text to Dad reading “I’m crying! Just saw the most beautiful purse in the world! 400 Euros!” .. It was actually 500
but he sent me a text back that more or less said “tough shit!” hahahahaha. Well damn.
Took a taxi to the hotel around 4, slept 2 hours, then went out and ate Chinese food for dinner. Came back to the hotel, showered, watched BBC, then talked to Roby and Rita and Aldo on the phone for about 2o minutes- love them so much. Roberta was nervous for her exam, as was I, and turned out that Luisa had called 2 times but they never responded. A while later Luisa called me to tell me that going to Rome was a massive mistake and that if I was in the middle of my trip they would’ve had to send me home for it. Tough shit! They’re assholes, and I had fun! She also told me that what I did was worse than what the finnish kid did, and he did drugs, drank, got in fights and was violent and abusive. Riiiiiight, I did something worse than him by going to take an exam for university.
Couldn’t sleep that night, and ended up laying in bed for about 4 hours before going to sleep. Woke up, and walked to the school. It was totally strange how all of a sudden I was surrounded by heaps of American students. Sat next to a super cute boy with an Italian passport during the test, and in front of me was Katie, a girl who’s mom is Greek/ American and step dad is Italian, so she lives here but here heart is really back in LA. She was heaps nice.
Math was hard, the other stuff was decent. The essay was CRAP. I haven’t written in English in mooonnnthhhsssss. I can’t wait to retake it all over again, especially because I didn’t study for crap. Whoooops. Vabbe’ It’s over now!
After the test, called a Taxi, decided to walk along Corso Vittorio Emanuele for a bit before catching the bus. Walked to the colosseum in the sunshine, had lunch at some restaurant outside while listening to Harry Potter, then walked back to Cavour to take the metro to Tiburtina. At the station I was sitting on a bench and a man came over to ask directions, but my immediate response was “I’m sorry, I don’t speak Italian very well, so I can’t help you” And he’s like “no you speak Italian incredibly well!” and I’m like “tehe, thanks”. Anyway, this man was absolutely beautiful. I mean, Italian actor status. He was probably 40 or 45, but he was definitely a george clooney. Walked over to the bus station, hopped on the bus, and passed out on the back row of 5 seats (thinking of how I always did that with Jackson). It was sweaty and hot and italian on the bus, and I woke up sticky and uncomfy. There were two college boys in the seats in front of me that were pretty cool to talk to though.
Overall, I really enjoyed going to Rome. I wasn’t particularly nervous about being there by myself or anything, and I had a really fantastic time my first day. I was texting Manuel and Gerardo all day keeping them updated with what I was doing and how it was going. The first day I was totally happy being all alone and running around by myself, but by the second day I was lonely. I wouldn’t be able to live by myself!
I got home at 7:00 and as the bus pulled in I was surprised (again!) to see Eva and Maurizio and Jacopo all waiting for me to arrive. My first thought was “shit! did I tell them I’d go home with them??” because I had just gotten off the phone with Aldo who had come to pick me up. I stood with them for a few minutes until Aldo pulled up across the street. While Maurizio was wearing his matching sweatsuit, Aldo stepped elegantly out of his Alfa Romeo in an absolutely stunning black suit and tie. He looked REALLY good- che culo!
Came home and saw my dear Roberta, who was waiting for me to get home! On the phone the night before she had told me (in English so her parents didn’t understand) “Tomorrow, after we finish our exams, we have to….. festeggate!!”, which would be a literal translation of “party” from Italian. Hahahahahaha.
Her test went really well too, but the listening part was difficult. We went out with everyone that night- Manuel, Carmello, Simone, Vincenzo, Denise, and then Vittorio and Priscilla came to Vincenzo’s when we went back to play poker. I’m crap at poker, by the way. Hahaha. Carmello was being a pain in the ass, like normal these days
Last night I also had to say goodbye to Tefi, who left this morning at 4 a.m. She should be about to Ecuador by now. She was so sad and it was so hard to say goodbye to her. I think the hardest part was watching her hug her host sister and cry. She was such a sweetie pie and invited me to come to Ecuador to stay with her- I would love to!
I hope it works out.
Time is flying by and I have 8 days left. Roberta and I want to go to the theme park in Napoli this week, and tonight we want to see Sex and the City 2 in the cinema. At 7 there is a procession for Corpus Domini and Aldo has to wear a sash and Roberta Rita and I have to walk all over the city with him. Also, at 9 Flavia is having her birthday party in Avellino and I’m dying to see her. I hope it all works out! Now, I gotta go clean my room! <3 Hoping to talk to Mom soon too… We haven’t talked in ages.
